Jiangjun Tea Eggs was originally located at the county border on Beiyi Highway. In 2006, the store was expropriated by the country government and was relocated to the exit of Toucheng Interchange on the same day that Hsuehshan Tunnel was open to the public. A veteran, Wang Zi-Yun, visited the highest point on winding road in1960, and he decided to sell tea eggs, which are the taste of his hometown because he missed his home in Guizhou. He used specially-selected tea leaves to soak and cook the egg shells that are washed clean before adding spices, like bird eye chilies and star anises. The eggs are slightly spicy with light chili egg white and tender egg yolk. Because the mountain road is bending, he worries the danger of drivers driving and peeling egg shell at the same time. The old General put up a notice board to establish a rule that take-away will only be allowed after drivers have eaten. Memories and techniques are deeply rooted in the heart of tourists. It is a delicacy that you must not miss when visiting Yilan.
